Metabolism and cardiac regeneration
Metabolism in the developmental cardiac tissue regulates a specialized metabolic state that coincides with regenerative processes in the heart. Upon maturation, cardiomyocytes exit the cell cycle becoming terminally differentiated and stem cells together with metabolic alterations. Nevertheless, there is limited understanding of how metabolic changes alter cellular turnover in the heart. The lab uses various cellular and molecular assays to measure cellular metabolism including measurement of metabolites and their role in cellular turnover.
